Research Report: Developing a socio economic profile of survivors of abuse in Irish religious-run institutions
At a SSGT Trustees’ meeting in 2009, during a discussion on the Report on the Commission to Inquire into Child Abuse, the Ryan Report, the Trustees realised they had little knowledge of the current situations of survivors of abuse. They commissioned social researcher, Mary Higgins, to develop a socio economic profile of survivors of abuse in Irish religious institutions, using whatever information was available.
The purpose was to identify unmet needs and to inform the appropriate allocation of resources targeting this group in Ireland and the UK. The overall objective of the Trust, in commissioning the report, was in the context of our policy of periodically reviewing the needs of people who are most marginalised, to inform the allocation of the Trust’s resources. However, we are happy to make the information available to those who may find it useful.
